Our Story

Our story is a unique one. From humble beginnings as a 1960s carpet store in the basement of our founder's home, The Wellsville Group has expanded over nearly 6 decades to operate within the largest furniture store brand in North America and become a top 100 furniture retailer in the United States.

Then and Now

The Wellsville Group opened its doors as Carpet Town in Wellsville, NY in 1967.

After expanding to sell furniture and evolving over 34 years, a partnership with Ashley was formed in 2001, opening the first Ashley Store owned and operated by The Wellsville Group in Horseheads, NY—one of the first to open in the nation! Today, The Wellsville Group's footprint spans 20 retail locations in western and central New York, northeast Ohio, and central Pennsylvania.

About Ashley

Ashley is North America's largest furniture and mattress retail brand with locations spanning the globe in over 155 countries. Each store is independently owned and operated. The Wellsville Group is a top 10 Ashley licensee.

Our Impact

We strive to provide a "crazy good experience to all," from our customers, to our team members, to the communities we service. We believe that a well furnished home is filled with a happy family, so we strive to have a positive impact in each of the communities where our teams live and work. Each year, we give back in multiple ways to various charitable initiatives, such as Hope to Dream—delivering hundreds of new mattress sets to children in need. We also partner with United Way, Special Spaces, and other various organizations that support our communities.

Caring for our impact on the environment is something we also take very seriously.  In each of our distribution centers, we recycle all cardboard, plastic, styrofoam, and any other reusable materials. In the course of a year, we recycle over 400 tons of packing and shipping materials as part of our commitment to sustainability.
